The Shin Bu Kan Dojo at Wellesbourne is one member of a group of dojos that practice Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido and Zen Nihon Kendo Renmei Seitei no Gata. Iaido is a Japanese martial art or budo, usually translated as 'the way of drawing the sword and cutting', although 'the way of being prepared' is possibly more accurate. In iaido the practitioner performs kata, or forms, using a Japanese sword.
The Shin Bu Kan was founded by Sensei Victor Cook, 7th Dan Kyoshi, in Brighton in 1979. There are other Shin Bu Kan dojos in Rochester, Southampton, Portsmouth, Brighton, Barnstaple, and Guildford. Shin Bu Kan dojos can also be found in Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland.
The Warwickshire dojo started in 2013 and is led by Jon Coupe, 4th Dan. The dojo runs a class once a week on Thursdays, 7:30pm, in the village of Wellesbourne (Accross the M40 from Warwick and Leamington Spa). Honbu (Head Dojo) seminars lead by Cook Sensei are also available, once every other month.
Everyone is welcome but please note we do have a starting age of 18. No previous experience is necessary, all you need is an open mind!
